Anil Ambani is an Indian businessman and the chairman and managing director of the Reliance Group, which is also known as the Reliance ADA Group. Born on 4th June 1959, Anil Ambani obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mumbai, followed by an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1983, he joined Reliance, a company founded by his father Dhirubhai Ambani, alongside his elder brother Mukesh Ambani. Anil and Mukesh Ambani jointly took over the leadership of Reliance, following the death of Dhirubhai Ambani in the year 2002.

In the year 2005, after a public split between the brothers, the Reliance Industries Limited was split. Anil Ambani took over the group’s businesses in telecom, power, infrastructure and financial services. This demerger led to the creation of the Reliance ADA Group, with Anil Ambani as its Chairman and Managing Director. In the year 2008, Anil Ambani briefly became the 6th richest person globally, with a net worth of $42 billion. However, debts and strategic blunders caused a drastic erosion of his wealth in the following years.

Anil Ambani Income Source

Anil Ambani’s income primarily derives from his position in the Reliance ADA Group and equity holdings in the group’s businesses. Following the creation of the Reliance ADA Group, Anil Ambani became the chairman and managing director of five key companies, namely Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Power, Reliance Capital and Reliance Entertainment.

At present, only two active companies contribute to the income earned by Anil Ambani. Reliance Power, focused on power generation, has seen improvements in profitability in the recent quarters, besides reduction in debt burden. Reliance Infrastructure, operating in roads, metro rail, defence and engineering, has also shown signs of revival, including profitability in some quarters.

Other firms of the group like Reliance Communications and Reliance Capital are either defunct or have negligible contribution due to debts and defaults.

Anil Ambani’s net worth is estimated to be around $530 million to $1 billion. Most of his remaining assets are linked to family trusts and minority stakes in Reliance ADA Group’s entities. He has minimal personal stakes in listed stocks. Anil Ambani’s assets and investments have been severely impacted massive debt burdens of his group companies, insolvency proceedings and investigations by agencies like ED and CBI.

On 25th February 2026, the Enforcement Directorate attached Anil Ambani’s residential property located at Pali Hill in Mumbai. It is worth INR 3,716.83 crore.
